The End of 3rd Year 1st Semester

the 3 weeks exam ended finally.. we are the group that witness it, because our last paper is on that very last day and we are the last group of people that leave the exam hall, thought our paper took 3 hours time. while everybody is going out for shopping and movie, we still need to face our last subject, it’s so unfair! but nevermind, it ends finally..

our seniors always tell us that 2nd year 2nd sem and 3rd year 1st sem are ‘killer sem’, means these two semesters are very tough and busy, many people cannot score in these semester. thankfully it’s over now, we experienced it and it’s time for our beloved juniors to take it, wish them good luck!

by the end of these semester, we are being taught of all classes of drugs and analytical methods used to test the drugs. so it is suppose the time for us to apply it! excuse me.. i can hardly recall those drugs that i studied before! i don’t know what will happened to me during my clinical year and Dr. Mohd is waving his hand towards us, welcoming us to the clinical year. so scary, don’t even have stomach to think of it..  so all i can do is just wish me good luck!!

Insomnia

for those who had stay together with me before, i think you will be very shock to read this: I’m suffering from insomnia recently..

i used to sleep more than the other normal people. for me, sleep is the easiest thing to do. i just have to close my eyes then i can fall into a very deep sleep, no matter how noisy it gets, i won’t be awakened as if i was died.

but for these few days, i was too difficult to fall asleep and it took me up to several hours sometimes. i don’t know why it happens, every time when i was laying down on my bed and getting myself ready to sleep, my mind suddenly get full with many things, which keeps me staying alert. I’ve tried counting sheep, but the more i counted, my mind is getting more alert.

this is what we classified as hyperactive mind, one of the causes of insomnia. i think maybe there is not enough serotonin production or release in my brain that giving rise to this problem..

sleep is the most basic right for a human being, so please……

don’t steal it from me… :’(

Malaysia Education System

try to recall back, from the very first day you step into the kindergarten until now, what does the word ’study’ meant to you?

for me, study = memorizing = exam

if we don’t memorize well, we won’t get good result. that is what Malaysian style of education: memorizing, attending exam, get the result, happy, then forget everything.. study is just for exam, that is why by the time when PMR, SPM and STPM are coming, you can see so many advertisements on talk that briefs students on how to answer the exam questions. some students even go for tuition, not because they can’t understand well, but to get the exam tips.

before entering university, i thought it will be different from the education style in school, but the reality is so disappointing. there is even a lecturer of mine telling us the ‘right’ way to answer the questions. she said ‘explain’ and ‘describe’ are two different things, and she actually photostat us a list of terms that are commonly used in the exam questions and their meaning.

for me, it doesn’t make any sense. as long as we can write out the answer, that’s it!! why need to make things so complicated? i don’t think when i graduate, i would give different answer for two patients, one of which asking me to explain the disease and the other one ask me to discuss about the disease.

besides, some lecturer are borned with the absence of a logic mind, i don’t know they treat their students as what; robot or photostat machine? we have to answer so many essay questions in just about two hours time. what happened to my juniors is even worse, 17 essay questions in two and a half hours. OMG!!  only robot and photostat machine manage to do it OK.. they expect us to memorize their notes from the first word until the last word so that we can write out all the answer once we read the question without needing to think first.

sigh.. what to do. because we are all borne in Malaysia..

conclusion: in Malaysia, education is just a game for those who are good in memorizing facts, no matter they can apply the knowledge or not.

For One More Day by Mitch Albom

this is a very nice book to share with,  the book that i just finish reading it, very interesting and touching. i like the way Mitch Albom organize the whole story. he likes to put some short story that is related to the story in between the chapters. maybe you don’t understand what I’m trying to say now, but its OK, I’ll make it clearer later on.

this story is written based on his interview with the narrator, named Charley Benetto. so this is a true story, not solely the imagination of the author.

Charley Benetto is a broken man. he lost his career and family. the worst thing is that he doesn’t even get informed about his daughter’s wedding. he is so disappointed and decided to end his life. he took a mid night ride back to the place where he spent his entire childhood in. on his way back to his hometown, he get involved in an accident, a very serious one, but surprisingly he didn’t die.

he walked back to his mother’s house and discovered that his mother who died years before standing alive in front of him, cook him dinner and talk to him. and he spent the ‘one more day’ with his mother. in their conversation, his mother helped him to get back into his normal life, the life he ruined.

on that day, he travel from one house to another together with his mother and discovered many things about his mother: the reason for her divorce and what had she does to support the whole family.

the narrator did make a list entitled ‘Times I Did Not Stand Up for My Mother’ and ‘Times I Stand Up for My Mother’. it is the story in the list that Mitch Albom put in between the chapters, together with short memo that his mother wrote him, of which always end with ‘p.s: i love you everyday‘.

i bet all mothers in this world will do as what the narrator’s mother did, they just different in their way to show how much they love their children. now, try to refresh back and do that two list, you will realise how much you owe our mother. so, do appreciate every moment you spent together with your mother because you might lost her one day. and by the time comes, you do not need to appeal for one more day.

Cardiovascular & Therapy Paper

so what is so special about this paper that i want to write it in my blog? actually nothing special, just a bit shock, shocked by the last question. i cannot remember the whole question, but i sounds more or less like this:

Based on your knowledge, explain the modification that can be done on propranolol (structure given) in order to improve its activity by giving appropriate structure.

thankfully i don’t flip through the exam paper before i answer it, otherwise i won’t have mood to answer the other questions anymore. when i reached this question, after reading it for several times, my mind turn into

-BLANK-

i had no idea on what to write on the answer sheet, haven’t learn about this thing before, modification of propranolol, what the hell is that?? the lecturer don’t even touch on that during the lecture!!

so what i do is, i really ‘apply’ my knowledge on drug modification, acting like a real chemist, draw several structures, adding groups here and there, and then give some explanation to make it sounds logic. after all, i don’t think that my answer is correct.. never mind, 10 marks i give it back to the lecturer.

Dr. xx, you win!

Study Week

study week, sounds terrible.. but the more terrifying thing is the coming up final exam.. well, this is my perception towards study week long time ago (i think its during my first year). I’m currently in my study week, first paper on the coming Tuesday, but i still cannot feel the exam mood that i used to have before. maybe it’s because I’ve been experiencing lots of examination since the day i begin my study life (and also I’m now already in 3rd year). OK, this reminds me a joke that i read from newspaper before;

Difference between the expression towards quiz among university students:

1st year’s students: TWO WEEKS LATER GOT QUIZ!!

2nd year’s students: QUIZ ON NEXT WEEK!!

3rd year’s students: TOMORROW GOT QUIZ..

4th year’s student’s: HAR?! THE QUESTIONS JUST NOW IS QUIZ?!!!!!!!

haha, hope you all enjoy the joke and good luck in the final exam.

A Bothersome Cough

thanks to the flu viruses spreading in Prima Condo C-4-13, i get infected finally. it happens like a chain, first is keat ming, then pei ni, me, heng and lastly su man. don’t know who will be the next victim, because there are still three people healthy smiling now, haha..

this bothersome cough developed before the running nose goes away and i really hate it, it keeps me from sleep well and keeps on wake up in the mid-night. it’s like comes against me, every time when i was laying down, it became even worse.  God!! sleeping is far more important than anything in this world, if i don’t have enough sleep, my whole day’s routine get affected.

so please, go away quickly or I’ll be crazy….

p/s: don’t simply take any medicine to heal this minor illness, let your body’s immune system do the job. it’s time for it to grow stronger and stronger!
