33rd Bon Odori
I’ve been to the Bon Odori once before i enter the university, or it’s during my 1st year, i can’t really remember.. i can still remember that when we arrived the stadium, the ceremony already came to an end and we really didn’t get to enjoy it, how regretful..
because of that, i really can’t miss this year’s Bon Odori, since this is my final year in university, and maybe i won’t have any chance to participate in this kind ceremony anymore..
I’m being informed about this year’s Bon Odori by Kai Leong last week and we start to look for people to join us. quite a number of our coursemate would like to join at first, but a few days before, many of them decided not to join us and this is my first time being ‘put aeroplane’ by so many people.. quite mad at them actually. but nevermind, i don’t want that to affect my passion towards this ceremony. luckily, there are some of my freinds from the other course joined us at last, and that made up a total of 16 people!!
we go to the stadium earlier so that we can get to park our car. the weather is still very hot and i start to blame myself for wearing jeans and long sleeve shirt. before the programme start, we bought some japanese food and eat it on the field and i felt like picnic in the stadium.
i heard that japanese are very punctual and that’s true! the programme started sharp at 7pm like in the schedule. the ceremony starts with the first round of japanese dance, 4 songs played twice for each and that last for 30 minutes. there are performers on the stage that dance with simple step and everybody below dance together. all people seem to enjoy the dance very much!
throughout the show, we danced 3 times as there are 3 japanese dance sessions. during the last session of dance, everybody seems to know the dance very well and manage to dance very well without watching the performers on the stage.
the show is really enjoyable, but nothing is perfect. the atmosphere in the stadium is full of dust and you can see that the stadium is really hazzy, especially near the stall that sell japanese food. when i get back to my house then only i realized how serious i was.. my black colour shoes became brownish in colour and when i bath, i can see that mucous in my nose is actually black in colour! i know it’s very disgusting, but that’s true, it’s black, not brownish black, but totally black!! i don’t know how much carcinogens that i’ve inhaled that night.. so, for anyone who would like to join the show next time, remember to bring along a mask or two to avoid those from happening on you.
anyway, the show is great and i enjoyed it very much!! hope to go again next year if i still got a chance, haha..
